Booking the role

So, funny story with the role of Émeraude. I wasn’t the director’s first choice for the main character. They had initially booked somebody more fierce. Apparently, my gentleness wasn’t what they had envisioned for the character, but they ended up deciding it could add a nice touch. After all, when you become a character, the likeness of the actor doesn’t matter. You can still become that character. It will simply look and feel different. The actress they had first chosen for the role ended up having to leave the project for a professional gig which was unfortunate for them but very exciting for me! I accepted the role happily and we started meeting and discussing character, logistics and all that jazz when I was told by my agent that I had booked a commercial on the same day as the shoot. The directors were extremely talented at choosing actors who were bound to become unavailable at some point it seems. So, I had a choice to make: a big commercial with a big pay, or a short film with no pay. Everyone around me told me to choose the commercial, but the reason I act is because I have a passion for the art. Commercials aren’t art, at least, not the one I had booked. I love acting in short films and getting to explore my range. That’s not something I could have done with the commercial. So I went against what everyone told me to do and kept my word. Looking back, I have absolutely no regrets. This film was super fun to act in and it gave me some great clips for my demo. The directors were good at pushing me until they got the exact performance they wanted and I’m very proud of the results!
